Law Enforcement & Corporate Training
Police Chief Marty Sumner told me, “Train my command staff. If they see the value, then I’ll have you train the whole department.” I trained all his officers.
Why Do I Train Law Enforcement Officers?
My favorite uncle, Richard, was a police officer. In my late 20s, a police officer forever changed my life. And, I’ve volunteered extensively with local law enforcement. So, I have a heart for the men and women who lay their lives on the line to serve their communities.
The Process
- Access the needs via an interview with the Chief, followed by a survey of the officers.
- Research relevant stats, experts, and true stories.
- Develop a custom script and slide deck to address the needs.
- Deliver a fun, engaging, and interactive training with heart and genuine respect.
- Follow up with an evaluation of the training and its effectiveness.
Common Topics Included in Custom Law Enforcement Training:

- Removing communication blocks between supervisors and subordinates.

Why Do I Train Teachers?
School was my favorite place as a child and teachers were my heroes. But times have changed. Teachers need more resources, support, and solutions that work. Training and workshops are my way of paying it forward.

This training is based on my award-winning book Under the Influence: The Town That Listened to Its Kids and the experience gained by working one-on-one with hundreds of students spanning several decades. Additionally, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Counseling.
Note: While most teachers strive to improve, some believe the “old way” is good enough. Even these teachers benefit from dynamic training as witnessed by Principal Tim Lee, who said, “When she got my naysayer, I knew she’d gotten everyone else.”

That’s the conversation I had when the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools commissioned me to present my first training in 2013.
Our group was the last one to leave the building.

I love children and the best way to help young people is to help their parents. Plus, I’m a parent and grandparent. I bring my bloopers and my successes to the training.

Parent Training Addresses:
- How to keep your child on the healthy path or get your child back on the healthy path.
- Mastering difficult but necessary conversations using the V.O.I.C.E. method. These conversations include peer pressure, dating, sex and gender issues, suicide, vaping, drugs and alcohol, curfews, homework, chores, and family dynamics.
- Three tools—Cope—regaining balance when stressed, sad, or mad. Connect—relating in a way that makes them want to listen. Select—choosing the best approach for the best possible outcome.

Patty Jo: Why did you hire Classic Writing to create your script and slide deck, when you’ve created many trainings for yourself in the past?
Lindsey: Time. I had an opportunity to provide a training, but I didn’t have the time to create it.
Patty Jo: What did you think of the interview process?
Lindsey: That was very helpful because you are not in my industry. So, I actually had you create two trainings; one for stormwater professionals and one for non-professionals. It was your questions that helped to clarify the message for each group.
Patty Jo: Were you happy with the script?
Lindsey: Very. The script was in my voice. It even had my voice inflections and my humor.
Patty Jo: What about the slide deck?
Lindsey: It was just what I needed. And you pulled the second training from the first. That makes it easier for me to deliver both programs.
